Jackie Loeb Review PDF Print E-mail
Written by Imogen Thomas
This ‘comedian, performer and plus-size model’ from Sydney is clearly full of energy as she explodes on to the stage with her distinctive and powerful singing voice. She is like a younger, Australian Bette Midler whose anecdotes are amusing, especially those about having a chat with the automated cashier at Tesco, and being ‘thick as thieves’ with her GPS navigator. Her comedy, however, is not laugh out loud, and though you find yourself smiling throughout you almost feel guilty for not actually laughing. Her cover songs and impressions of Cher, Alanis Morrissette and Norah Jones are very funny, but always seem to be cut short in a rush to return to the stand-up, which is in fact a lot weaker than the music. The songs are well performed and consistently humorous - dealing which timeless subjects like the MacDonald’s on Prince’s Street that never closes. On the whole, a well produced and enjoyable show, but one which won’t have you rolling in the aisles.
