A spectacular dance production telling the tragic story of a mixed race boy, his struggle with identity and his mother’s endeavour to save him from the influences of the world, which poignantly ends in failure. The cast fly across the stage as newspaper headlines and the coroner’s face are projected onto white boxes which are moved around throughout the show and integrated into the complex and impressive dance scenes. Some of the voice-overs are too loud and occasionally difficult to understand and although the projections are a fundamental (and generally successful) aspect of the show, the constant fluttering of the projector is distracting and rather spoiled several otherwise moving scenes. The choreography is unique and exciting, with excellent performances from the entire cast. Especially admirable are the group performances which are tight, visually engaging and flawlessly timed as well as the tenderly sweet dances between mother, father and son. With songs, rap and excellent movement, this heart-breaking story is told in a truly awe- inspiring fashion.
