If it’s comedy you’re after, you won’t find better than this hugely entertaining and talented trio. Creating a remarkably electric atmosphere from the outset, the energy of this hilarious troupe is infectious.
The consistency and volume of the audience’s laughter speaks for itself; Fringe veterans the Penny Dreadfuls don’t disappoint with yet another year of highly original comedy. In a return to the sketch comedy that made their name, the cast of three take on personas and create scenarios ranging from the absurd to the ridiculous, and yet manage somehow to make anything seem plausible within their bizarre world.
Primarily free of gimmicks or props, this is quirky British humour at its best, a Pythonic mockery of the modern world. The show is replete with hysterical and unusual tales, including a gothic spoof of the cult movie Twilight along with fantastically awful exhibitions of physical comedy, from the Borat-esque costumes in ‘Wrestlemania’ to the exaggerated machismo of the rally drivers.
Dressed in a comic combination of tracksuits and leather, these guys win over the audience purely through their versatility and creativity. The ingenuity of this show, whether portraying a Russian spy with a penchant for jelly babies or a child-molesting sea captain known as Mr Princess, ensures that you won’t find another act quite like it.
The only predictable thing about this show is that it will sell out, and fast, so go buy a ticket now!
