altNick Grimshaw has never done stand-up before. In the queue we had beautiful young Radio 1 listeners (and their dads) all wanting the man with the overgrown fringe to do well. But just because you have lovely teeth does this mean you can entertain a crowd of festival punters?

Despite my reservations and preconceived ideas I have to say that this combination of personality and Powerpoint was consistently funny. Delivering a run-down of the many things that he 'ates allowed Grimmers to shine. His best stories were about his Northern family and the time his dad met Lady Gaga. The low points included his embarrassing tales of an STI and his unjustified hatred of cats.

After the show two of his very excited fans, Roz and Lauren, tell me he was ‘really, really funny.’ Sure, this was a partisan crowd but that doesn’t mean people were obliged to laugh. Just like a virgin he went quite fast and it was all over too quickly, but on your first time what else can you possibly hope for? A little more banter with the audience would have added to the already enjoyable show.

This was a one-off performance but perhaps, if Scott Mills can convince him, then Grimshaw might be back on the Edinburgh stage next year. I, and his delighted young fans, will be keeping our fingers crossed that the fringe will be back on the Fringe.
