If there is one word I could use to describe Margaret Cho, it would be this: polished. However, this wouldn’t be much of a review if it was only one word long, now would it?
Displaying the easy confidence of a veteran performer with twenty years’ experience, Cho takes to the stage in a rather extreme outfit of snow-patterned leggings, star-spangled jacket and striped knee socks. She is looking slim and youthful, but not in that twig-like, Hollywood way that one might expect from such a big American star. Instead she’s simply enjoying her body and the sexual voracity that she says it brings her.
That’s an important point, because bisexual Cho is obsessed with sex and has an omnivorous appetite for it. Whether its discussing the satisfaction of a man orgasming on her face or chasing after butch grandmas at the gym, Cho is unlikely to hold back the smallest detail, and she’s all the funnier for her brutal honesty. Who would have expected a comparison of men’s attitudes to anal hair to be quite so uproarious? Certainly not me.
There is nobody quite like Cho for indulging in gross-out humour while remaining completely charming. She’s so lovely you’d quite happily take her home to meet your mother. You’d have to keep an eye on her seductive tendencies when you did, though, or you might just find mommy dearest in a compromising position over the dinner table.
Cho’s comedy will easily appeal to both men and women, even those “I don’t like female comedians” types. As long as you’re broad-minded and have a reasonably strong stomach, you won’t go wrong grabbing a ticket for this award-winning, all-American girl.
