altGrew Up in a Strip Club is a coming-of-age story, brilliantly told by Brett Goldstein.  During a mid-life crisis, Goldstein’s father decides to buy and run a strip club in Marbella, which leads to an unlikely comical tale. He does highlight that his year there was not all fun, but he carefully selects some of the more amusing tales of his time there.

The colourful characters employed by and visiting the club are the fodder for the tale with Goldstein bringing them to life onstage. The focus is on the less exotic staff, patrons and disapproving partners of the ‘dads’ who built the club.

An unusual trade to discuss publicly, he steers clear of the smutty side of the industry as best he can while telling a story of a strip club. The well-timed lines and character descriptions had the audience chuckling, eagerly waiting to hear how the story ends.

The act is brought to a head with the tale of his final night at the club involving all of the characters Goldstein depicted over the year.  He vividly regales the audience with the outcome of not checking exactly what is in the jelly and how far away the fantasy got from his Dad’s dream of running a fantasy escape for golfers.

Unique, funny and entertaining, I would suggest that you see this with friends or your Dad if he is approaching a mid-life crisis, but leave your Mum at home.
