altI almost didn’t give Martin Mor five stars - he’s MY comedian and I don’t want to share him. But that would be unfair because he is absolutely brilliant.

Martin is playing a tiny room with a capacity of about thirty at The Stand, something I can’t understand considering his talent and reputation, and, on a very rainy Edinburgh day, he had the pleasure of entertaining about twenty gently steaming audience members. This cosiness led to an intimate gig where everyone got to play. We even had nicknames!

He certainly knows how to use an audience. Major parts of his show involved us, and we gave him some good material, I hope! Sometimes I find audience interaction cringe-worthy, but in a gig this intimate, it was very comfortable.

There is a loose theme to this show: Martin jumps in and out of hilarious anecdotes about his brilliant life with tenuous links to the central chapters, touching on growing up in Northern Ireland and then dissecting ageing sex lives. Martin is absolutely hilarious at every turn.

A natural performer - well, you’d have to be to pull off that fabulous beard - it is no surprise to me that Martin’s love of performing originated in the circus (he must have been quite the attraction but I’m glad he moved into comedy because he’s a natural).

As I said, I was nervous about giving him five stars, the reasoning being that he might lose some of this intimacy playing to a bigger crowd. The very fact that he nicknamed us and referred back to us throughout the show is what made it so special.

Anyway, I’m going back. I look forward to seeing you again Martin and I hope you enjoyed your chocolate from… Seahorse Girl. Don’t ask.
