altHow do I love Claudia O’Doherty? Let me count the ways.

1. She has chosen a remarkably dull, incredibly niche topic for her show, i.e. soil erosion, and put together one of the most creative, funny and downright weird hours on the Fringe. And by God, she genuinely will give you a lot of facts about soil erosion.

2. Her personality shines though the bizarre character she has created to present her intended 26-hour documentary series on soil erosion, leaving you completely in thrall to her charm no matter whether she’s discussing rill vs gully erosion or her nasty cold sore.

3. People leave her show. One front-row couple were so unable to comprehend the rest of the audience’s uproarious laughter that they walked out when O’Doherty left the stage for a moment. It made the rest of us feel that we were even more in on the joke. Her appeal is never going to be as broad as the Jim Jeffries’ or John Bishops of the world, but it’s all the better for that.

4. Her use of props and multimedia is simply brilliant. She has thought about everything, right down to the specifics of her outfit, and she will explain them to you in detail. And you will love it.

5. She has to be one of the most original performers at the festival. Her comedy is experimental and hugely exciting. If you’re looking for a joke-punchline merchant, she will not be your cup of tea. At all. However, if you love the Mighty Boosh at its oddest, Adam and Joe and Garth Marenghi’s Dark Place, you might just be ready for this. Give her a chance – whether you love her or hate her, she’s well worth taking that risk.
