Imagine a group of Oxford choristers locked away with only MTV and a very talented musical arranger for company. Tenuous image, I know, but the result is entertainment genius. The 12-strong a cappella group bounced, thrust and pirouetted their way through a variety of songs from the cutting edge to old, beloved classics, the slower songs acting as a breather between tunes that were so fun that the audience were barely able to remain seated.
Moments of brilliance revealed themselves in the ballsy mash-ups they dreamt up, both witty and seamless. These combinations maintained a level of innovation to make the acapella group incredibly original.
The singers were almost constantly in motion, at times enacting a song in hilarious ways, and others revealing their pure joy in the music. The choreography may not have come naturally to these talented young men, but their charisma and willingness to make fools of themselves added to our enjoyment and the panache of their music
At once hilarious and contagious, you can’t help but leave this show smiling from ear to ear.
