Midsummer A Play With SongsBilled as a play with songs, this description does not do Midsummer justice. Neither though, am I likely to. Helen (career driven divorce lawyer) and Bob (petty criminal, commonly known as Medium Bob due to a lack of discernable features) meet in bar. They get drunk. They have sex. Standard issue rom com subject matter. And Midsummer is, undeniably, a musical rom com, but the skill, charisma and vitality of actors (plus a fantastically developed set) means that it feels in no way limited by being a stage production.

The minor characters that crop up are brilliantly portrayed and the entire performance has an incredible amount of energy, with no interval to stall its momentum. The fact it's set in Edinburgh makes it a perfect festival choice for some homegrown feel and guaranteed entertainment.
