altWorking in the local pub, the Kerryman, gets the better of the play’s protagonist as she turns her attention to acting school. Welcome to the Kerryman is one girl’s story of getting out of the hometown rut and the trials and tribulations along the way.

Considering it is a one-woman show, the play contains a multitude of characters, from the pub regulars to the lead character’s parents.  Lauren O’Rourke does well in bringing each one to life with different mannerisms and places for each character.  The fast pace of the show demonstrates O’Rourke’s talent as an actress, which I suspect is the purpose of the show.

The show treads the line between comedy and drama, and at times I was not sure which I was watching.  Some of the regulars less desirable traits lean towards a drama. However, there was the occasional joke thrown in for good measure.

Overall, O’Rourke holds the audience’s attention for the forty-minute show. She is a talent to be watched as the writer and star of the play. Although this was a free show, I am sure the audience would have gladly paid to see it.  If you are near the Princes Mall, I suggest you see this show.
