altIn the crush of the London Underground carriages, lives intersect like the lines that thread beneath the city. One Under masterfully brings to the forefront the thoughts that capture our imaginations as we sit solemnly waiting for our stops in a subtly and deftly told piece of drama.

Having taken to the tube and asked commuters to pen down what they had been thinking about before they were interrupted, the cast drew inspiration from the myriad of scrawled responses: bitching, banalities, daydreams, ponderings, worries and woes all feed the narrative of the final play. Being privy to these snippets from the lives of strangers makes One Under an informed and original piece.

Particularly, we follow the thoughts of a young mum seated next to her dozing husband and a stylish blonde as they silently judge one another, while an older gentleman and a pensive American reflect on their lives in the next seats down. The pool of stories that come from this quartet are lucidly told and finely written. I’m sure that the audience will be able to identify with one or more of their misadventures, longings and regrets along the way. Though in need of some tweaks and tightening, this script and its delivery are nevertheless a pleasure to behold. I would strongly recommend this one.
